Linda Ben-Zvi (Tel Aviv University)
"Beckett and Disgust: The Body as 'Laughing Matter'"Linda Ben-Zvi, twice President of the Samuel Beckett Society, is Professor emiratae, Theatre Studies, Tel Aviv University, and English and Theatre, Colorado State University, where she was a John N. Stern Distinguished Professor. Among her numerous publications on Beckett are Samuel Beckett (G.K. Hall, 1986), Women in Beckett (University of Illinois Press, 1990), Drawing on Beckett (Assaph Books, 2003), and Beckett at 100 (OUP, 2008), co-edited with Anglea Moorjani. She has published widely on American and British theatre and performance, including four books on the American playwright and novelist Susan Glaspell. Her Glaspell biography, Susan Glaspell: Her Life and Times (OUP, 2005), was awarded the Special Jury Prize of the American Library Association.
Lois Overbeck (Emory University)
Lois Overbeck is Director of The Beckett Correspondence Project at Emory University. The project, which has been based in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences since 1990, is preparing the authorized scholarly edition of Beckett's letters from a selection of over 15,000 letters that are held in archives and private collections worldwide. The first of four volumes was published to widespread acclaim by Cambridge University Press in 2009; The Letters of Samuel Beckett: Volume 1, 1929-1940 was edited by Overbeck, Martha Dow Fehsenfeld, George Craig and Dan Gunn. The second volume covering the years 1941-1956 will be published in September 2011.
Jean-Michel Rabaté (University of Pennsylvania)
Jean-Michel Rabaté is Vartan Gregorian Professor in the Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania. A leading figure among the generation of French theorists taught by Derrida and Lacan, he has published or edited over twenty books on Beckett, Thomas Bernhard, James Joyce, Ezra Pound, psychoanalysis, and literary theory. His recent books include The Ethics of the Lie (The Other Press, 2008), 1913: The Cradle of Modernism (Blackwell, 2007), The Future of Theory (Blackwell, 2002), and, as editor, The Cambridge Companion to Lacan (CUP, 2003). He became President of the US Samuel Beckett Society in 2011.
